I found your entry "Shoes on Trees" by keying in the same on the search engine. Did you ever find out why the shoes were there? About forty miles north of me, there is a tree with shoes tied all over it (Lower Peninsula of Michigan)I have no idea WHY they are there. Now, I know it is not just a local thing, but still don't know why... hmmm. :) Daisy

Nice reading. Wish I had had more teachers like you in school I can really relate to the "Mrs Madison incident" in the 3rd grade. (More than once unfortunately. They were *very* strict)

Love your layout. By the way, which font did you use for the navigation links? I'd been looking for a font like that for some time now...

Oh, my - I could feel my jaw starting to clench as I read your entry about the horrible conference. Honestly, it was completely unreasonable for them to come in and nitpick you to death. I agree that you should document everything - and if you can swing it, make sure the next time you meet with them that the principal is there. Sounds to me like things aren't right - maybe their child is getting into screaming fits over homework, or maybe there's some other kind of stress going on, and they're taking it all out on you. You know yourself well enough to know that what you're doing is right. Lean on your fellow teachers for support, and hang in there! You're doing wonderful things, and don't forget it.

I cannot believe those parents. I know that you know to do this but DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT every thing that they send to you. If they continue, they're harassing you and that's uncalled for. Some parents, I swear! *UGH*

About your entry 9/11 and as a mother I wanted to tell you I agree with you. My son is 10 and in 5th grade. He came home and the first thing he said to me was: I think we are going to be attacked again etc. I think even so it's an important part of history to teach our children I don't see the need to worrie a 10 yrs with this type of stuff. Let the children be children. I think for the most part schools over did it on the subject.

Maggie, I felt the same way about dealing with 9/11 in school. The principal asked up to talk about it, so I did, but after a few minutes the kids had said all they wanted to. I don't see any reason to keep bringing it up when we're still inundated with images from 9/11 on an almost daily basis. It's hard to know the right thing to do.
